#2086: Adam French – Rubber Band

For those that have been following me on my music journey for quite some years now, today’s artist might ring a bell. Adam French was the first artist I properly talked about on my blog (after the pilot blogpost). I remember discovering ‘More To Life’ and being blow away by it. I wasn’t necessarily blown away by the song itself, but more by the combination of French’s raspy vocals together with this upbeat indie pop (‘More To Life’ is one of the few upbeat songs in Adam French’s discography). My adoration for the Congleton born singer-songwriter continued for quite some years and Adam French swiftly turned into one of my favourite artists of all time. Songs like ‘Silhouettes’, ‘Euthanasia’, and ‘The Optimist’ are still amongst my collection of favourite tearjerkers. Absolute fantastic songs.

As time passed, Adam French’s catalogue comfortably settled into my brain as I kind of put my worshipping on the back burner. I managed to catch him live during Haldern Pop quite a few years ago already, and purchase a copy of his only album as to date, ‘The Back Foot and the Rapture’ (8-3-2019). After that, the dust settled and I occasionally gave his music a spin or two. This year might’ve marked a big milestone in the career of the singer-songwriter. Latest single ‘Rubber Band’ seems to give us a little insight in the new musical direction Adam French is going. It’s a straight up guitar banger, incomparable to his former releases. No more heart wrenching anthems, but rather more powerful stuff going forward. Given that Adam French covered and released The Walkmen’s classic ‘The Rat’, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Brit has a profound interest in more heavy stuff as well. I’m more than happy to feature ‘Rubber Band’ on Jam of Today and I’m very excited to keep an eye out for Adam French’s new musical journey.
