I know, I know. It’s only January. But, hear me out. I might just have found our first contender for Album of the Year. Last week, Folly Group’s debut album ‘Down There!’ became the first addition to my Album of the Year 2024 longlist. The British band have been going for a few years now, releasing brilliant singles for a living, and have now finally debuted with ‘Down There!’. Of course, singles ‘Strange Neighbour‘, ‘Big Ground‘, and ‘I’ll Do What I Can‘ have already made it into the playlist (and rightly so), but with the introduction of 6 new songs (‘Pressure Pad’ got released a few days before the album, so we technically already knew that one) Folly Group is blowing us away with their modern take on post-punk and even a bit of dance punk at times. Over the last years, a lot of post-punk has gone through our hands, but Folly Group have constantly managed to stay original and surprise us with their music. Don’t sleep on this one!
