Hartlepool, UK band PLAZA has dropped their debut album ‘A Different State of Mind’. It features previously released singles such as ‘What You Want‘, ‘Apology To Myself’, ‘Fickle’, and today’s Jam ‘A Different State of Mind’. It even includes new versions of 2016 debut single ‘Blood Orange‘, and singles ‘Deep in My Head’ and ‘Totem’ off of their 2017 EP ‘Wernotplaza’, and the even more unknown ‘Antumbra’, which appeared on their YouTube channel in 2015. Thus, you could say that this album is kind of a collection of recent singles mixed with old stuff, a couple of extended interludes and some album tracks. The 2 brand new songs – ‘Bad Blood’ and ‘No Place Like Home’ – are pretty decent, but some of the other songs sound unfortunately similar. Take the vocal line of ‘Fickle’, which really reminds me of the one off of ‘Origami‘. I don’t think it will be a contender for album of the year, but I’m fine with adding ‘A Different State of Mind’ to my longlist nonetheless.
