#2173: Joost – Europapa

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of Eurovision in the slightest. I’m just not really interested in the entire extravaganza. However… I do like Joost. I’ve been following the Frisian artist since 2016 and wrote plenty of articles about him on my former blog. I’ve always liked Joost. His way of making music is of the original “I don’t give a sh*t” kind, just doing whatever he feels like without any restrictions. Not being signed on any (major) label, Joost has been one of the most successful Dutch indie artists of the decade, stacking up streams with big (international) hits such as ‘Friesenjung’ – a remake of Sting’s classic ‘Englishman in New York’ – which features German artist Ski Aggu and a cameo by comedian Otto Waalkes and made it to #1 in several European countries. Within the borders of the low lands, songs like ‘Ome Robert’, ‘Wachtmuziek’, and ‘Florida 2009’ made waves. To get a good feeling of a Joost show, I can recommend watching his 27-minute set at Lowlands 2023, where pretty much every single human emotion makes its appearance on stage. I will say it again, I’m not a fan of Eurovision. But if there was ever a moment for you to get to know Joost, go check out his performance of the already iconic ‘Europapa’.
