The first record (together with English Teacher’s ‘This Could Be Texas) I bought after moving to London was Van Houten’s ‘The Tallest Room’. The Leeds band blends a mesmerizing mix of chill shoegaze with 90s alternative covered in a dreamy sauce that’s keeping it all together. I’ve already seen a lot of very positive reviews of ‘The Tallest Room’ and I can’t say I’m surprised, given that I was quite addicted to their single ‘Coming Of Age‘ for a while. This album will definitely be an outsider for a top 5 spot in my End of Year lists.
