I’m trying to dissect the Blue Swan Records / swancore universe bit by bit but every single musician in this realm seems to be intertwined with one another. There’s the core – Will Swan – who participates in countless of projects featuring Dance Gavin Dance members but also Royal Coda members, which in itself exists out of former Dance Gavin Dance members. Then there’s Hail The Sun, who’s singer Donovan Melero has a band with Sergio Medina – Nova Charisma. Sergio Medina happens to be the vice president of Blue Swan Records and also DGD’s bass player ever since Tim Feerick died. Then there’s acts such as Secret Band, Stolas, A Lot Like Birds, Push Over (with Thomas Erak from The Fall of Troy), Wolf & Bear, and countless amounts of other side projects featuring members from every corner of this tangled galaxy.
I didn’t even start talking about Sianvar yet, together with Stolas the first signing on Blue Swan Records. Sianvar featured Will Swan, Sergio Medina, Donovan Melero, and also Michael Littlefield, Joseph Arrington, and Michael Franzino (all A Lot Like Birds). Sianvar is considered to be a bit of a swancore supergroup, though they unfortunately disbanded in 2019. ‘Substance Sequence’ is a song off of their 2014 EP ‘Sianvar’ and marks the sheer talent this collective of musicians has.
