I really like the saying ‘when push comes to shove‘ (meaning: ‘when one must commit oneself to an action or decision‘). It makes sense, too! Especially if you compare it with its Dutch equivalent, which is ‘als puntje bij paaltje komt’, literally translated as ‘when the [little] dot arrives at the [little] pole‘. No idea where this originates from, really. Either way, Home Counties wrote a song about it. Fair play to them for doing that.
