#2421: The Maccabees – Marks To Prove It

Sometimes there’s an album you listen to right as it gets released. Sometimes you start listening to an album a few weeks or maybe months after its release. And sometimes there’s albums that take you 9 years before you finally decide to give it a try. Here’s The Maccabees’ ‘Marks To Prove It’, released on the 31st of July 2015. Soon celebrating its 10 year anniversary, after hearing the title track the other day I decided: “Yes. This is the moment I will listen to this album”. The funny thing is, I still vividly remember ‘Marks To Prove It’ and ‘Something Like Happiness’ being played on the radio back home in The Netherlands. And, you know, I never disliked these songs either. They’re solid! I reckon this album just ended up on a fictional pile of ‘Albums I will listen to at some point in my life’ and forgot about it. Or maybe I was just never really interested in it. I don’t know. Well, either way, I have now listened to it and I can say: nice. It’s a nice album. The two aforementioned singles are still my favourites but maybe I will give it another try to find some album tracks I like. Maybe, in 2033.
