Each day of December this year, I’m highlighting one of my favourite albums of 2024. Counting down the list, we start with #31 on December 1st and go all the way down until we’ve reached #1 on December 31st. Today, #21 on my Album of the Year list: Bloom – ‘Maybe In Another Life’.
When I started going through my list of Albums of the Year, I got caught by surprise when I saw Bloom’s ‘Maybe In Another Life’ being featured in it. This rock-solid piece of metalcore sounds like it’s been part of my listening habits for many, many years already. However, it being released in February made it quite easy for me to draw the following conclusion: this might just be one of the best metalcore albums of 2024.
Perhaps that’s because I have been playing singles ‘Bound To Your Whispers’ and ‘You & I’ on repeat all year. But, to be honest, I’m yet to find a song on this album that I strongly dislike. Yes, there’s some bits here-and-there that could be improved but for a debut album, ‘Maybe In Another Life’ is hitting a home run. The first half of the album is just straight up no-nonsense metalcore to die for, especially the title track and the aforementioned singles are leaving a lasting impressing. I suppose the album’s only main downfall is its length. With a length of 29 minutes and 39 seconds it surely is on the shorter end of the spectrum, but maybe I’m just greedy. I want more. More of this.
