Haha! Look what I found. In honour of the 50th anniversary of Sparks’ ‘Kimono My House’, Phoxjaw released a cover of the iconic ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us’. The song and the belonging album (‘Kimono My House: 50 Years Later‘, on which 12 underground hard/psych/stoner rock artists take on the songs off of the album) got released back in May 2024 already, but I’ve only just stumbled upon it the other day. I’m sure you all will have some thoughts on this one! Let me just start off the conversation by saying that I think this cover works weirdly well. In a way, the lyrics of this song have quite a strong Phoxjaw vibe to it already. That odd, strange, quirkiness, a style in which Phoxjaw has released many amazing songs over the last few years, too. As far as covers go (I’m not the biggest fan myself), this one has done quite a good job. Of course, the original will always stay as iconic as can be but if there was any band to cover this song, I feel like Phoxjaw would be the number 1 candidate.
