#2565: Green Day – Holiday

At the end of the day, Jam of Today mainly functions for me as a way of collecting all my favourite songs into one place. Of course, I could create as many playlists as I want and add all my all-time favourite songs in one go but wouldn’t it be way more fun to spice it up a bit and limit myself to just one single addition a day? This way, I have to be patient and carefully think of what song I’ll be adding: do I choose one I’m currently into, a tune I might’ve recently fallen in love with or one that’s been around for such a long time in my life that it’s basically inextricably linked to me as a person? To be fair, I wouldn’t quite classify today’s Jam as either one of these three options but, the truth is: for about 20 years now, Green Day’s ‘Holiday’ has been around as one of my favourite songs. Wherever I go, as soon as this one starts playing I can’t help but think of the time I played this song over, and over, and over again all these years ago: going on (would you believe it) holiday to France, on a long coach journey from Amsterdam with a CD of Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ playing on repeat in my discman. Sometimes, a memory can be just as simple and straightforward as that. And I can’t say I’m unhappy about it.
