One of the two records I bought at this weekend’s Independent Label Market in London was from Matador’s Mdou Moctar. ‘Funeral for Justice’, the 2024 release by the Nigerien Tuareg rock group, is one of the records I played quite a bit during my Japan trip last year and really made me appreciate the great quality of this band. A few weeks after that specific trip I went down to Brixton to see Mdou Moctar live and, wow. What a great gig that was. I was super impressed by the musicians on stage, in particular drummer Souleymane Ibrahim who was rockin’ it out of the park. I’d already got myself a copy of 2021 album ‘Afrique Victime’ at some point last year but I’m happy I now found myself a copy of ‘Funeral for Justice’ on vinyl, too.
