#2710: JOSEPH – Looking Back

I would like to start this week with something a bit different than usual. You might see me sharing a lot of metal-adjacent genres here on Jam of Today and even though I try and keep it diverse by sharing some more alternative, pop, or sometimes dance or hip-hop leaning songs every now and then, you haven’t read a lot about today’s genre on the blog throughout the years. Meet JOSEPH, a folk pop band hailing from Portland, Oregon, consisting of sisters Natalie and Meegan Closner, who combine their magnificent vocals and turn every song they release into a beautiful harmonic masterpiece. I’ve been quite a fan of this group since I first discovered them in 2023 – right before I started blogging on this website – and consistently listened to a few or their songs and albums. I certainly hadn’t forgotten about them but it took up until earlier this summer to pick up some of their latest releases. Out of all the songs JOSEPH has dropped in 2025, ‘Looking Back’ stands out as one of the most complete and perhaps representative songs by this band. As much as I like the latest Deftones album, a classic by Beartooth, or one of those million swancore songs I share here on Jam of Today, I can’t shy away from the fact that I’m a sucker for a beautiful harmony and even though JOSEPH’s latest releases don’t feature as much of it ever since sister Allison has stepped away from the band, this band has got it spot on, as proven in today’s Jam.
