This week at work, the word got spread that I’ve been upholding a music blog called ‘Jam of Today’. It all happened kind of accidentally and even though this spontaneous marketing session turned out to be a relatively lucrative one (I gained a solid amount of extra online traffic!), I’m wondering if I have much to offer to some of my beloved co-workers. See, I love them all to bits, but I’m not sure if they are all too interested in my occasional excursions down the darkest alleys of the genre spectrum. Since I don’t think hardcore punk, darkwave, or post-rock are really up their street, I’m willing to compromise a bit and share something that’s probably the furthest away from those (sub)genres possible. That’s right. For the first time in Jam of Today history (I think), I will be sharing a reggaeton song on the blog. Not just because. Not at all! See, I do actually quite like this song, which is funny in a way ‘cos I’m usually not into this kind of music whatsoever. For some reason, Puerto Rican (that’s a first, too!) rapper Bad Bunny struck a good chord with ‘Ojitos Lindos’, though Colombian group Bomba Estéreo’s influence on this song is also pretty key for me. This tune has some weird sense of nostalgia to me which is kind of strange since, you know: it’s only been out since 2022. I have been hearing it quite a lot though, since it’s part of a video game’s soundtrack that I’ve been playing regularly for a few years now. And perhaps the fact that ‘Ojitos Lindos’ has over 2 billion streams also means I might’ve heard it somewhere before. Either way, this song seemed like a nice little compensation to my newest followers of Jam of Today. Hello, everybody! Nice to have you all on board. Hope you’re ready for some neo-psychedelic influenced emo rock coming your way soon.
