#2777: Rolo Tomassi – Tempest

I’d like to think most new album releases by my favourite artists always appear on my radar. In general, albums tend to get a lot more attention. I mean: I even spend an entire month at the end of the year highlighting my favourite ones! EPs, however, seem to be a bit forgotten about. Never really do I get super mega over-the-top excited because a brand new EP has just been announced. The anticipation just isn’t as high. Well, that all changes right here, right now. All thanks to Rolo Tomassi, who have released my favourite EP of this year, seemingly out of nowhere (though I’m not sure since I’m not on social media so it could well be that they announced it and I’m just too lazy to research if they actually did). ‘In The Echoes Of All Dreams’ contains 4 songs of which opener ‘Woodburn’ is a dreamy song creating the perfect segue into ‘Tempest’, from where it all comes crashing down like a math rock avalanche. ‘Dead Language’ and ‘Unintending’ are easily just as good and the latter forms for a beautifully melancholic ender of the short piece of musical content. Fantastic! There, I suppose EPs also make for short and easy to write reviews. Ha! EPs aren’t so bad after all.
