Once or twice a year, I’d like to dive back into the playlist I made for my previous weblog ‘De Spotlight’ called ‘Vers Gespot’, a list basically containing all the (new) songs I featured on my old website each week. As of 2025, this playlist is obviously quite dated given that I said goodbye to the blog back in 2018, but every now and then I stumble upon a forgotten gem. Sometimes it turns out that specific gem has actually gained quite the popularity over the years and the band in question has grown a bit, too. Such is the case for ‘Beach Fossils’, who I had kind of forgotten about since there’s about 10000 other bands out there whose name also contains the word ‘beach’ so all those acts just become one big sandy blur in my head. Anyway, guess what? Turns out this band is pretty big now. ‘Down the Line’ has become a hit and ‘Sugar’, the song I featured on my old blog, is now actually a decently popular song on their 2017-album ‘Somersault’. Cool stuff! Time to promote this song from a dead blog to a lively one in the form of Jam of Today.
