New Nothing just dropped (12 days ago)! ‘toothless coal’ is the third new release of the American shoegazers ahead of their new album ‘a short history of decay’ (to be released on 27-2-2026) and sounds like the most ordinary Nothing song as of yet. Previous releases ‘cannibal world‘ and ‘purple strings‘ swayed a bit away from the regular shoegaze sound, the first being an odd mix between drum & bass and shoegaze (not quite sure what to think of it yet, it also kind of reminds me of The Prodigy at times?) and the latter being an almost 5-minute long dreamy ballad vaguely reminding me of the way more powerful ‘Us/We/Are‘ off of ‘Dance on the Blacktop’ (2018). Even though I haven’t shared much Nothing on Jam of Today in recent years, I still very much enjoy the Nicky Palermo fronted group. Some of their former Jams have been amongst my most liked songs for years now – especially ‘Tic Tac Toe‘, a bonus track on ‘Tired of Tomorrow’, has been on top of my list of favourite songs for ages now. I can’t believe that specific album will celebrate its tenth anniversary already this year. Honestly, where has the time gone? Good to see Nothing is still out there doing the same old thing releasing the same old great songs.
