#2867: August Burns Red – Identity

It has turned into a habit: every time ‘The Frost‘ by August Burns Red comes on shuffle in the Jam of Today playlist, I automatically queue ‘Identity’ right after it. Not sure why I chose particularly those two songs to take a massive liking to but I figured, if I play ‘Identity’ so much, I might as well highlight it on the blog, too. Especially since it tackles an important topic: embracing and acceptance of one’s self. ‘Identity’ was written as an homage to a friend of the band coming out as gay after struggling with their sexuality in a less accepting environment which is sadly still the case for a lot of people, almost 11 years after this song has been released. Of course, releasing a singular song won’t solve the issue but I admire bands speaking out about important topics and highlighting it in their music.
