#2873: Kensington – Wanted / Needed

My international followers might not be all too familiar with this group but in The Netherlands, it’s safe to say everybody and their nan knows Kensington. They’ve been one of this country’s biggest bands for the last 10 years or so and with their mainstream rock managed to easily sell out the biggest Dutch venues several times. I myself once used to be a big fan of this group too, right at the release of their debut album ‘Borders’ (2011) and follow-up ‘Vultures’ (2012). After this, I lost track of the band since I’d kind of outgrown the direction they were heading into but a while ago, I dug into some of their most unknown tunes of which ‘Wanted / Needed’ surely must be at the helm of. This song off of EP ‘Youth‘ (2008) doesn’t have any of that ‘boring rock‘ the alternative people despise so much. Instead, this uptempo song upholds an odd balance between 00s indie rock and post-hardcore. Crazy, right? Of course, the production quality is very low and the members are clearly still very young and inexperienced (famous ex-front man Eloi Youssef had been demoted to only doing backing vocals on this song!) but looking past all that, this song is actually a pretty alright 00s Dutch indie track that would definitely go down well in a mix with some of my old-school Dutch favourites by Destine, A Silent Express, or Milkbar.
