A very long time ago now, me and my mate were talking about (00s) Christian rock bands we liked without necessarily being all too aware they were labeled a Christian band. I admit liking acts such as Confessions of a Traitor, August Burns Red, and (God forbid) Skillet, while he sent me Emery, a Christian post-hardcore act enjoying decent popularity about 20/25 years ago. While for some of these bands it wasn’t all too clear they were a religious act, most examples given here made it quite obvious within their music. Throughout the years, I’ve kind of stopped caring all too much about this feat, just as long as it isn’t too on the nose within the band’s music. Since I’m not religious myself, I obviously have less to relate to in Christian band’s lyrics clearly addressing their faith. Luckily, these bands usually still release plenty of great songs that are simply worth listening to no matter the topic, such as ‘The Cheval Glass’ off of Emery’s 2011-album ‘We Do What We Want’ which isn’t a straightforward religious rock song whatsoever.
