#2877: Phoxjaw – Bodiesinthewall

On a rainy night in October last year, I found myself on a bus ride home from a day of working while blasting Phoxjaw’s music through my headphones into my ears. Alongside queueing my personal favourites, I decided to dive a bit deeper into the band’s EPs ‘Goodbye Dinosaur…‘ (featuring the brilliant ‘Triceratops‘) and ‘A Playground for Sad Adults‘ (containing favourites ‘Melt, You’re a Face of Wax‘ and ‘Monday Man‘). Unsurprisingly, another great song came rolling out of this experience: ‘Bodiesinthewall’, an early-yet-stereotypical Phoxjaw song balancing fantastically between frantic madness and whimsical, dreamy rock. From a quality standpoint, it’s obviously not quite touching upon some of their later work such as ‘Royal Swan‘ and ‘serpentsdripfromtheskies‘ which I consider to be the Bristolians’ best, but you can really hear the band’s potential in this 2018-release.
