#2898: Interpol – Untitled

Buying a last-minute gig ticket often turns out to be hit or miss. Sometimes you get caught by surprise and get blown away by a fantastic show by a band you had never heard of until approximately one hour ago, and sometimes you wish you’d just stayed home and treated yourself to a cozy night in with a cup of tea. Last night, I experienced something close to the latter. Earlier that day, I felt like going to a metal gig so I bought myself a ticket to see this seemingly out of the ordinary band play in a venue very close to my home. “Cool”, I thought to myself as I noticed this band was billed an ‘avant black doom jazz‘ band – for lack of better genrefication, I suppose. In reality, what I witnessed wasn’t as exciting as I’d hoped. I guess you could call it ‘heavy prog with sax instead of vocals‘ and I wasn’t grasped by it whatsoever. I don’t know. I just thought it was kind of boring. Perhaps you think differently! Feel free to check out this particular act on Spotify right here. Anyway, on to today’s Jam which has absolutely nothing to do with this story whatsoever and is, in fact, a great song by an even better band I wish I could’ve seen live instead of last nights disappointment. Upon arriving home, I settled myself down and watched a bit of telly before heading off to sleep. Much to my liking, one of the shows I was watching featured Interpol’s ominous opener of debut album ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’, ‘Untitled’, in its soundtrack, something I didn’t see coming and honestly made my night a tad bit better. Thanks to the editors of this TV show, I managed to end this somewhat mid evening on a bit of a musical high after all.
