#2916: Bad//Dreems – Ultra Dundee

Ever since releasing ‘Shadowland‘ – their first single ahead of this brand new album – my anticipation for Bad//Dreems’ 5th ‘Ultra Dundee’ has been pretty high. As of now, I still consider that particular single on of the best the Australians have ever dropped, which made the band’s recent announcement of going on indefinite hiatus bittersweet. Of course, it’s great to end on a high but I would’ve loved for the characteristic band to go on a bit longer. Even though I didn’t instantly take a massive liking to the following singles ahead of this album, I do feel like ‘Ultra Dundee’ is very much a grower. As we’re used to by now, Bad//Dreems goes in with a heavy blend of garage influence garage rock tackling heavy political topics regarding the Australian culture and identity. Throughout the years, this has put Bad//Dreems on top of the pile of underrated Australian rock bands and ‘Ultra Dundee’ should most certainly be serving as the group’s magnum opus. For me, it’s still very much in the process of gaining that particular status but I’m sure, if I give it some time, this album will be an important one for the music year that is 2026.
