I’m Gijs! I was born on a chilly and cloudy Wednesday night in May 1997. Just as many other folks on this planet: I like music. I like it so much that I decided to dedicate pretty much my entire life to it.
My musical journey started off at my (several) local radio station(s), hosting over 500 episodes of my own radio show. Later, during my college years, I set up a music blog solely focusing on young and upcoming artists called ‘De Spotlight‘. I kept this up for a few years and wrote tonnes of articles about all sorts of music but eventually lost the motivation to continue. You can still check it out but it’s severely outdated (and in Dutch). Few years onwards and I found myself working my first proper job in the music industry.
By the age of 19, I joined an international Music Video Streaming broadcaster based in The Netherlands. Here, I did all sorts of fun stuff. From curating playlists to working in music programming, editing, project coordinating, and eventually specialising in music metadata. I’m currently working as a Head of Metadata, having the pleasure of working with and being responsible for massive music databases.
Fast forward to current times and here we are on Jam of Today, my own musical diary on the internet. What all started off as this tiny thing to keep myself entertained turned into a website that I’m happily maintaining each day of the year. It fills me with great joy that you took some of your time to check out my blog and I hope you will tag along with me on this exciting ride where I’ll be sharing my moods and thoughts through the form of a song, every single day of the year. Thanks again for checking out this website and if you fancy, feel free to give the Jam of Today Spotify playlist a follow!
