Here’s another absolute mad and unexpected Jam. Never did I think Spinvis would make it into the playlist, but here we are. After writing Hang Youth’s album review for the December special, I couldn’t help but notice their song ‘VANAAF’ starting off with a nod to Spinvis’s debut single ‘Smalfilm’. Right after writing that specific album review, for the first time in my life I voluntarily spun a Spinvis record and lo and behold: I actually enjoyed it. For all these years in my life I have been ignorantly writing off the Dutch singer-songwriter, who’s known for his absurd lyrics, but last December proved the turnaround. Maybe I’m just reaching a fine age to be able to enjoy this kind of music more and more.
