#2764: Hail The Sun – Consumed With You

…and there it is! One of my most looked forward to albums of this year has been released yesterday. Hail The Sun’s 7th album ‘cut. turn. fade. back.’ features some of my favourite songs of this year in opener ‘The Drooling Class’ and closer ‘War Crimes’ and with 9 songs I hadn’t listened to before (I purposely didn’t listen to any other previously released singles to get the ultimate ‘brand new’ experience at the day of release), I was up for one of the biggest treats of this year when I first played the album in its fullest yesterday. Honestly, with the end of 2025 approaching, I wasn’t quite sure if anyone could beat my #1 album of this year so far (which I won’t spoil just yet!) but with ‘cut. turn. fade. back’ now being released, chances are quite likely the top of my list will get quite the overhaul. This album is an absolute stunner and I’m sure I’ll be playing it on repeat for the rest of the year. My first impressions (I’ve played it a handful of times already) leave me with ‘Consumed With You’ as one of the many songs I foresee staying with me for a long time. Perhaps this song might even turn out to be my new ‘Made Your Mark‘, known to be my all-time favourite Hail The Sun song and one that easily moves me to tears.

I read your blog quite often, and every now and then I feel the urge to respond.

I’m not exactly an emocore enthusiast — it usually feels a bit too intense for me, and the songstructures tend to twist and turn more than my brain can handle, especially while working at home (definitely not background music, if you know what I mean).
Still, the Jam of Today playlist often finds its way into my living room, and I have to admit: this stuff is starting to grow on me.

“Consumed with You” really is a stunning song. I can see why it hit you so hard — it’s surprisingly accessible musically, even for me, but emotionally it goes straight for the heart. A great song about loss, about being unable to let go… a bit like what the song “Oceans” by Johan does to me. But hey, that’s another corner of the musical spectrum.

Great pick — glad you brought this one to my attention!

    1. Thank you! Ha, yes, the Jam of Today playlist certainly proves to be very eclectic to say the least. Glad you enjoyed this song! I’ve been playing it on repeat all weekend. 🙂
