#2900: Eidola – Golgotha Compendium: Fifth Temple

I’ve been stuck in a loop of playing Eidola, Interpol, and Mew over and over again and it made me realise – even though I talk about these bands quite a fair bit, there’s still so much music by ’em all to share on the blog. Take today’s Jam off of Eidola’s 2024 album ‘Eviscerate’: an album of which I haven’t shared a single song on Jam of Today yet. After carefully listening to this song for a while now, I think I would go as far as considering this to be Eidola’s magnum opus. This 6,5-minute piece has a share of every single component in which this band excels in and I truly believe it won’t get any better than this. Its beautifully built up chaos and experimentation forms a near perfect structure (for me, at least), with dark and gloomy lyrics touching upon biblical themes such as crucifixion (hence Golgotha) and spiritual sacrifice giving the album’s punchiest song such an edge, I can’t seem to get enough of it. This band’s songwriting is on a next level and I haven’t even begun to unravel all interconnected mysteries throughout Eidola’s albums yet. Over the last 1,5 year or so, this band has grown to be one of my favourites and I’m glad they still manage to take my breath away with songs like this one.
