#3078: chest. – Self Sabotage

Got another drum session under the belt today, my first one since the start of July! It felt really great taking place behind the kit again and for two hours straight, I was just jamming along to the songs that played on shuffle off of the Jam of Today playlist. Usually I tend to fall back onto my hand curated drum session playlists but for the sake of having fun while also training my improvisational and adaptability skills, I simply let fate decide what songs I’d be playing to today. Whether it was a repetitive electronic dance tune, a Mark Ronson production, or some blast beast off of a 10s metal classic, I just went with the flow and grooved along as much as I could and honestly, I think I enjoyed this approach way more than playing along to my self-made ‘setlists’ this time. It certainly showed that I had a great session, since I left the studio with two additional blisters close to the ones I had already developed from picking up on another instrument recently: the bass guitar. Since about two weeks, I’ve started playing the bass and I’ve been really enjoying it, so much so that I’ve actually had a couple of great and successful rehearsals in with some mates of mine already. Yesterday alone, we played for about four hours which was awesome and very instructive for this young bass-student, but I definitely feel the consequences of having my hands and fingers deal with this much physical strain. The joy I get from playing both instruments definitely outweighs the bodily burden, though typing this blog post on my laptop does feel like an extra little layer of self sabotage.
