#3106: Prodigal – Opium-12

A rare Friday catching up on some new releases today, though I’ve instantly realised the vast amount of full new albums I’m yet to check out. Well, plenty of time to do so this weekend. After spinning Spotify’s personalised Release Radar full of new releases, my favourite new tune actually came in the form of a band I didn’t know yet (though they did play 2000trees this year): Prodigal, an English nu-metal/hardcore band hailing from the picturesque town of Stroud, who just dropped their debut EP ‘The Floating World’ earlier today. Third track ‘Opium-12’ is right up my street and fits perfectly in a mix with bands like Black Coast, Split Chain, Silo, and all these other similar sounding gritty, grungy metal bands. Prodigal, however, reels me in with vocals that weirdly remind me of those of Doves singer Jimi Goodwin and some delicious riffs throughout the entirety of this particular song. I can see myself playing ‘Opium-12’ a whole lot, and the same goes for the entirety of this EP.
