With the end of our journey in sight, today felt a bit like the big blowout. Staying semi-rural for one more night (tomorrow we head to Sendai after which we’ll return to Tokyo), we gave ourselves one final hike by ways of heading up to mount Haguro, a walk which mainly consisted of stairs leading up to 400+ meters worth of elevation. After this, we enjoyed some amazing local lunch before heading to the town of Tsuruoka where we will be spending the night. Before settling in a quite unique but endearing izakaya for dinner, we drove up to the shore to watch a beautiful sunset and stroll to a nearby island. Additionally, the local thrift store provided me with a long sought after Game Boy Advance SP (the one I currently have is about to die) so it really felt everything was falling into place today. Great to end on a high, as our road tripping adventure is officially coming to a close.
