Anyone familiar in the world of football memes might vaguely recognise this song. Seen as the World Cup is in full swing, me and my friends are sharing jokes with each other left, right, and centre. Think about this poor Dutch fan, trying to imitate his favourite (and mispronounced) Dutch player, or some true cultural gems such as this one. Also, have you seen this metal version of Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds’ classic ‘Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home)’? A true belter of a tune, as is Lynks’ new football anthem ‘Kick the Ball!!‘. I might share that one later on the blog; the lyrics are just hilarious. Anyway, back to the world of funnies. An intercontinental football tournament isn’t complete without the likes of Alan Partridge; the thoughtless, socially inept, and egocentric commentator portrayed by Steve Coogan. Every two years or so, we whip up his iconic world cup countdown of 1994 as Partridge professionally and flawlessly presented it to the The Day Today audience. Musical support is given by Welsh songwriter Richard Cottle, whose song ‘Kickin” has unwillingly become part of football history in a very weird yet hilarious way.
