Working for a relatively small company in the music industry, you often have to go with the flow of the ones pulling the strings (i.e. the ‘Big Three’ record labels) and in today’s specific instance, that actually worked in our favour. Since one of the three major labels bought all rights to Queen’s content two years ago for an amount of money I can barely even say out loud, the limitations of the availability of the iconic British rock band’s catalogue would fade and become more widely accessible. So it did for us at work today, as the content’s new rights holder delivered us the videography of Queen which meant all day revolved around the Freddie Mercury fronted group; sending their videos to the right channels, making sure they’re included in our programming, creating new playlists, amongst many other things we did today now that we finally received this content. It’s a great and rare moment, where a formerly exclusive catalogue starts becoming available more universally and we were all stoked to start using these absolutely iconic tunes on our platform.
