#3015: $uicideboy$ – Whatever Floats Your Boat Will Definitely Sink My Ship

I’ve noticed I’m often struggling to find the right words for songs with a very heavy undertone. Recently, I’ve treated Jam of Today more like a diary than I ever did – I’m now more focused on describing my day and trying to link that to the music I’m listening to. Therefore, I find it difficult to describe a jolly day of mine while at the same time sharing a song that’s stuffed to the brim with deep, sad references, even though it might still technically be the song I’ve been enjoying listening to the most on that particular day. A key example is music by $uicideboy$, whose name kind of gives it all away: it’s gonna be a generally sad experience listening to their tunes. Still, I do occasionally find myself playing their tunes even when I’m not feeling sad myself. Truth is, their songs are usually solidly written, contain better lyrics than most trashy hip-hop out there, and are in general quite good songs that I like to play whenever I’m in a hip-hop kind of mood. I think this all applies to ‘Whatever Floats Your Boat Will Definitely Sink My Ship’, too. A song with deep references about substance use and – more frankly – abuse, I’m glad I have no strong personal connection with it since luckily, I haven’t had any struggles with said topics. Yet, I think this song is one of the group’s strongest off of their 2025-release ‘THY WILL BE DONE’.
