Poof! And just like that, Jam of Today has been upgraded. Over the last few months, I’ve been working hard on rebuilding the entirety of Jam of Today and I’m over the moon to officially share the 2.0 version of my blog here, with you. Finally! Please allow me to give you a quick run down of all that’s changed on the blog.
WHAT’S CHANGED?
First and foremost, as you probably noticed already: the website itself. I took matters into my own hands by changing up the design of every page and environment you will find on the blog. The homepage now features the eye-catching Jam of Today, as well as an opportunity to explore further into the history of the blog – either through visiting the Spotify playlist housing all the Jams or by heading to the ‘About’ page, with some gnarly get-to-know information. You might even decide to search for your own favourite Jam, or relive some classic stories in the brand new ‘Collections’ section. More on that later.
While critically reviewing my blog’s design, I still wanted to make sure to stick with my initial motivator to create this website in the first place: to host an easy to navigate, straight to the point, and somewhat minimalistic website where I can share my own musical stories and discoveries. With that in mind, I decided to keep some things very similar to the previous design, such as the option to scroll through an infinite amount of past Jams on the home page alone. You might have also spotted a small change in the logo. I tweaked the original design to make it feel like a more cohesive logo. There’s still the trusted music note with its familiar bookmark (in a slightly different shade of yellow, mind you!), but this time with a font matching the design as well as the website’s new global font a lot better.
WHAT’S NEW?
I’ve created a new section on Jam of Today, namely: ‘Collections’, a place where I’ll be highlighting some classic stories in their own respective realms. For example, take my festival reviews. You will now be able to comfortably read them whenever you want to by simply navigating to the ‘Festivals’ collection. Or, how about that five week trip through Japan I did earlier this year? I’ve bundled all the stories of that magical journey together into its own collection. This, alongside others, will now all be available in this brand new section! Take a look and read through some of my favourite creations.
Elsewhere, you will find a brand new ‘Archive’ (or: ‘Tag’) section: a place where all bands and artists ever highlighted on the blog come to life. This section will feature all the Jams ever shared on the website by that particular band or artist, as well as a little description of the act in question and some other nifty data facts. I’m loving the idea of giving each of the acts I’ve ever shared here on Jam of Today their own designated spotlight, though I must share a footnote here and state that it will take me a hot minute to wrap up writing all these individual artist pages. I’m working hard on giving each of them the space they deserve, so hopefully soon you will be able to enjoy many more completed artist pages of the acts that made Jam of Today the blog it is today. You can navigate to this space by clicking an artist’s tag on the blog post they’ve been highlighted on, or through searching for an act of your liking in the search bar.
ANYTHING ELSE?
Some other less-exciting-but-equally-as-important updates include:
- Slight colour changes. I’ve stepped away from the pitch black background design and instead introduced a charcoal base, featuring off-white and soft yellow tones to make the overall appearance easier on the eye.
- A new font, which letters give off a friendly appearance by being a little more rounded than their predecessors.
- A better synchronisation between the blog’s desktop, tablet, and mobile versions. Jam of Today will now be easy to read no matter the device you use!
- Navigational improvements throughout the website, making it easier to orientate your way through Jam of Today.
- The ability to search for bands and artists without having to write down their special characters.
- The ability to expand the shared imagery, such as album covers, on the singular blog post’s webpages.
- Expansion on ‘Legacy posts’, which are all the Jams highlighted before the day I started actively writing stories about them. Soon, every single Jam will have been uploaded to the website!
This, alongside some less interesting backend edits and overall smaller tweaks throughout the entirety of the website makes for: Jam of Today 2.0, the first major overhaul since starting this website back in 2023. Ever since creating Jam of Today back in April 2018, I’ve always had the wish of one day turning it into its own website and with this brand new design, I feel like I’ve really outdone that wish. Throughout the years, Jam of Today has really turned into an own entity and after actively blogging every single day for over three years – and slowly working towards the ten year anniversary of Jam of Today as a whole – I’m overjoyed to still get a lot of fulfilment and satisfaction out of upkeeping and writing on this website. I’m really happy with the result of this revamp and hope you will be, too. Again, thanks so much for continuing to visit my precious little weblog. I hope this brand new design will open up even more opportunities for you to discover new music, as well as continue to give you some insights into the rhythm of my days as a music enthusiast living on this planet.
