#2961: De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig – Datvindjeleukhe

Tokyo is basically like a gift that keeps on giving. You walk into some side streets and: BANG! Another surprise awaits you. Today, I started off strolling around Shinjuku and Shibuya area, just me and some music, the way I like it most. I didn’t really feel like shopping or anything so I just wandered around playing some old school De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, which actually made for a very fun soundtrack as I walked between the buzzing streets of Tokyo. Even though I didn’t really see anything remarkable during my walk today, I certainly enjoyed one hell of a highlight when I headed to the Ajinomoto Stadium – home ground of Tokyo football teams FC Tokyo and Tokyo Verdy, who were fighting for the city’s pride and glory in the city’s derby. As two years ago (when I visited Tokyo Verdy playing a home game against Hokkaido Consadole), the atmosphere in this stadium was absolutely phenomenal and the ground was absolutely shaking throughout all 90 minutes. Japanese football really is something else. As a frequent visitor of football games in Europe, the match day experience in Japan is just so much nicer. No aggression, violence, or negative energy. Just a stadium full of people wanting to enjoy the beautiful game. I was enjoying this experience so much, that I got myself another ticket for a game coming Wednesday: Machida Zelvia play Tokyo Verdy (Again! What are the odds…), which means I get the opportunity to explore the suburban area of Machida a bit, too. What a great time! I just can’t get enough of it.
